Your flow was almost unbroken and while you mispronounced some words, you didn't struggle over them. You just said them and moved on.

There were also no extraneous sounds or noises, aside from your Superman theme, which was low volume enough to be non-distracting background music.

I've noticed when you are on another podcast or have a guest on yours, that you sound more relaxed. The pressure isn't on you and it shows; you sound more fluid and natural.

Keep up the good work.
Joe Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6111565570175248970.post-77076655819232344852015-10-28T15:18:44.899-07:002015-10-28T15:18:44.899-07:00Thanks for the comments Joe. It's your anonymous commentator aga...Hi Aaron,

It's your anonymous commentator again. I enjoyed your podcast. Glad it was cleaner this time. A couple of suggestions. I know you want to pimp your friends, but you have nearly 10 minutes of plugs in a 49 minute podcast. The first 5 minutes alone is your intro and then several plugs before you get to the actual podcast content. Limit your plugs to no more than two or three spread over the podcast. I would say put them at the end, but if you do that then more than likely few people will listen to them. For me personally, I have mixed feelings over them. I like to find out what else is out there, but on the other hand they start feeling like annoying commercials. So, try to limit it to one per break and limit it to two or three breaks during the show.

The other thing is your struggle to pronounce unfamiliar words. You are not alone in this area. Shag regularly butchers the English language...but, for the most part...he doesn't linger on a word. He just goes with whatever he thinks it sounds like. One way to deal with this problem is to simply go through the book and give a quick scan of words/names you aren't sure of and either A) look them up online for how to pronounce them or B) just go with however you think it should sound. Option A is of course preferred, but it's time consuming. Option B is still a bit annoying for listeners who can pronounce words that a podcaster butchers, but it's preferable to listening to the person struggling to pronounce the words and mispronouncing them anyway. Either option enables you to decide before the podcast exactly how you will pronounce those troublesome words and let your monologue and train of thought to continue to flow smoothly.

Keep up the good work.
JoeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6111565570175248970.post-69681408711788057482015-09-20T21:01:31.043-07:002015-09-20T21:01:31.043-07:00Thanks again for writing in Masked Ranger.

Working in the art world, I find that sugar coating criticism dilutes it and the message is often lost.

I've listened to both Kevin Smith and Mike Bailey. Smith is fun. A bit scatological for my tastes at times, but hey, what should I expect, it's Kevin Smith. I find his dog interrupting equally annoying. Bailey is a very serviceable podcaster. He's knowledgeable, but somewhat ranty. I enjoy his podcasts more when their is someone else to balance it out.

If you want a good example of a well produced podcast in the comic book genre, listen to some Fire and Water episodes. Those guys have a natural talent, good editing and pacing. I understand where you are coming from and I'm not going to try to speak for other listeners. Me personally, if I'm going to invest time in a podcast, I want the best quality out of it.

Normally, I don't listen to solo podcasts. I find that one person is generally boring to listen to, while a second person allows the podcasters to bounce thoughts off each other and have a discussion on the topic. You're a solo podcaster. My understanding is that was not your original intention, but it's what you ended up with. I enjoy your solo cast for the most part. You do have a habit of tripping over what you're saying, which can be distracting. But for a solocast you are not boring me and you are enthusiastic about the subject. So you get points there.

My advice to you: don't deliberately include distractions. Make your podcast as clean as you can. As I said, I'm not going to speak for others, but I tuned in to listen to you. Not your baby, not your dog, not your wife, not your neighbor trimming the yard. A lot of podcasters don't edit properly and it totally takes me out of listening to the podcaster and I move on. There are a lot of podcasts to listen to. And while it's a lot of work for the podcaster to produce their podcast, it's also an investment of the listener who is choosing your cast over another to spend their limited time on. Try to make it the best cast you can.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6111565570175248970.post-7619642165368522015-09-18T15:06:28.465-07:002015-09-18T15:06:28.465-07:00Since you didn't leave your name, I don't ...Since you didn't leave your name, I don't know if you'll get this...
